Say No to Caste Law

Why this should concern you!

Namaste Dharmic Voter.

Re SAY NO TO CASTE LAW – Why this should concern you.

Please take a few minutes to study the leaflet overleaf and understand some of the very serious consequences of the caste legislation and case law. For the GE17 election, the Dharmic community needs to vote in large numbers and strategically. Political Party alliances and affiliations need to be set aside. Labour, LibDems, Greens and all the nationalist parties have supported caste legislation bar the odd MP in these parties. As you will see ALL the Prospective Parliamentary Candidates who have signed up are Conservative. Please note Operation Dharmic Vote is not being an agent of the Conservative party, as our analysis and rationale for supporting the independent Candidate in Leicester demonstrates.

Time and resources are short. To make the most of this opportunity to influence for a better future, please follow this guide.

STEP #1:

Please share this page widely by email and social media.

Re Govt. led Caste Consultation due to complete on 17/7/17.

ODV’s Key Objective – Repeal  legislation AND Case Law

The information provided by the Govt in the consultation document presents and offers “choices” that have pre-emptive questions and deceptive options that have the potential that members of Dharmic Communities could misunderstand the process and potentially give responses that would compromise our communities’ future. This has been compounded by the conflicting advice some organisations have started to give out to the Hindu & Jain communities in filling in the consultation forms.

Please request details and how to respond to this consultation by contacting

The Prospective Candidates that endorse the position of ODV

Bob Blackman

Harrow East

Having studied the Anti Caste Legislation Committee’s (ACLC) briefing papers on the potential impacts on individuals, businesses, community organisations and public authorities, and having listened to community concerns, I am fully aware of the perceived impacts of the legislation, and resultant case law on this community.  I stand with the community to call for a repeal of the caste clause in the legislation thus removing the provision. Further, I would strongly advocate that the repeal takes effect immediately. If elected I will also support the efforts of my colleague Bob Blackman to seek support for Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.”

Hannah David

Harrow West

I welcome the opportunity of confirming my view on caste legislation. If elected I will also support the efforts of my colleague Bob Blackman to seek support for Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.

Sujata Barot

Leicester East

Operation Dharmic Vote assessment in Leicester. Local Dharmic communities are disappointed that political parties only pay lip service to their aspirations but habitually take their votes for granted. Imposing candidates, adopting patronising attitudes, using divisive community politics, and not taking account of constituency demography in Leicester has reached such proportions that Operation Dharmic Vote will be urging the community to vote for Sujata Barot, independent candidate for Leicester East. The likely support she will gain will be a wakeup call for the political parties.

Paul Uppal

Wolverhampton South West

I would like to express my support and awareness of Dharmic issues  from my previous 5 years as an MP. “Having studied the Anti Caste Legislation Committee’s (ACLC) briefing papers on the potential impacts on individuals, businesses, community organisations and public authorities, and their assertion that case law could end up with adverse consequences, if re-elected, I would seek the support of the government and fellow MP’s to repeal both the caste clause in the legislation and Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.

Ameet Jogia

Brent North

Brent North has been Labour for the last 20 years. During the campaign over the last few weeks, it is evident that people want change. Residents feel Labour have become stagnant in Brent North.  Having studied the Anti Caste Legislation Committee’s (ACLC) briefing papers on the potential impacts on individuals, businesses, community organisations and public authorities, and their assertion that case law could end up with adverse consequences, if elected as the MP for Brent North, I would seek the support of the government and fellow MP’s to repeal both the caste clause in the legislation and Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.

Rahoul Bhansali

Brent Central

I am proud of my British Indian heritage and the contribution that the community has made to British life.  I have closely followed the caste legislation and its impacts on the Hindu community. Having studied the Anti Caste Legislation Committee’s (ACLC) briefing papers on the potential impacts on individuals, businesses, community organisations and public authorities, and their assertion that case law could end up with adverse consequences, if elected as the MP for Brent Central, I would seek the support of the government and fellow MP’s to repeal both the caste clause in the legislation and Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.

Matthew Offord

Hendon

I am an officer of the All Party Parliamentary Group on British Hindus, have been a vegetarian for the last 34 years, and campaign on animal welfare issues and the environment as a Member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee in Parliament. Having studied the Anti Caste Legislation Committee’s (ACLC) briefing papers on the potential impacts on individuals, businesses, community organisations and public authorities, and their assertion that case law could end up with adverse consequences, if elected as the MP for Hendon, I would seek the support of the government and fellow MP’s to repeal both the caste clause in the legislation and Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.

Mike Freer

Finchley and Golders Green

I have an active and vibrant Indian community and I have seen no evidence of a problem. In all my time in political life I have been active in improving equality and removing barriers and existing equalities legislation can handle problems if they arise. Having studied the Anti Caste Legislation Committee’s (ACLC) briefing papers on the potential impacts on individuals, businesses, community organisations and public authorities, and their assertion that case law could end up with adverse consequences, if elected as the MP for Finchley and Golders Green, I would seek the support of the government and fellow MP’s to repeal both the caste clause in the legislation and Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.

Henry Smith

Crawley

Removing the divisive caste clause from the Equality Act is important issue. I endorse Bob Blackman’s statement on caste legislation. If re-elected as Crawley MP, I will support the efforts of my colleague, Bob Blackman, to seek the repeal of the legislation and for Parliament to overturn any adverse judgements in case law.
