DSP 180423 Indian flag in Parliament Sq torn down 18.4.18 MP

Dear … MP

23 April 2018,
I am sure by now you must have read about or heard of the heinous acts perpetrated by the Sikh Federation, UK and the Pakistan Occupied Kashmiris on 18 April 2018 in Parliament Square, acts that involved taking down the Indian flag during the occasion of the recent Commonwealth meeting in the presence of police officers.

Here is a link to the petition which is being signed by thousands expressing their hurt and deep anguish. Of great concern is the fact that the group of people in taking the Indian flag down is being led by a member of the House of Lords, Lord Nazir Ahmed, who is well known for his anti-Semitic and anti-Hindu views. Lord Ahmed is also behind organised public events in Birmingham celebrating the activities of terrorists sponsored by the organisation Hizbul Mujahideen which is run from Pakistan.

The European Union (EU), already in 2005, added the Hizbul Mujahideen to its list of banned terror groups. This decision was taken by the EU Council of Ministers of all (then) 25 member states. It meant that the group’s financial assets in the EU were frozen and the UK also complied with the collective decision. The United States has designated Hizbul Mujahideen,, the largest armed group in Indian administered Kashmir, as a “foreign terrorist” organisation, imposing sanctions on it including the freezing of assets it may hold in the US. It would seem that his activities fall within the definition of unlawful encouragement of terrorism and yet no action has been taken against him.

As voters of your constituency we request you to immediately take up the matter in the Parliament and other appropriate forums.

We would also like you to point out categorically to the Prime Minister that while she is showcasing the Commonwealth as an alternate trade block to the EU, post Brexit, the above mentioned act completely undermines one of its major constituents, India and its 1.3 billion people. We urge you to take up the matter expeditiously and in the right earnest.

Yours sincerely
